Tales of the Cocktail is what happens when a passion for well-crafted cocktails and the city of New Orleans meet a relentless entrepreneurial spirit. That is Ann Tuennerman. What started as a celebration of the cocktail tour Ann founded, has grown into the industry’s premier trade event, bringing tens of thousands of cocktail experts and enthusiasts to New Orleans each summer.
As founder and executive director of Tales of the Cocktail, Ann provides the vision and strategic direction for each year’s events, working directly with mixologists, bartenders, spirits brands and media outlets to bring them to life. To expand Tales of the Cocktail’s support of the international cocktail industry, Ann and her husband Paul founded the New Orleans Culinary & Cultural Preservation Society in 2006. The NOCCPS invests funds raised from Tales of the Cocktail events back into the cocktail industry through apprenticeships, grants, scholarship programs and more.
All this work cultivating and promoting the spirits industry has made Ann a go-to authority on cocktails and the business behind them. She currently serves as a spirits consultant for Saveur Magazine and is regularly called upon to be a source for national and international publications. Her work has also garnered her a number of local, national and international awards including being featured in MORE magazine, being one of the first inductees into the United States chapter of the Ordre Internationale des Anysetiers, receiving the BNIC Cognac Personality of the Year Award and the prestigious D’USSE Cognac Tom Bullock Award for Service and Leadership from DC Toasts.
In addition to her work with Tales of the Cocktail and the New Orleans Culinary and Culinary Preservation Society, Ann brings her knowledge of and passion for cocktails to Spirit Advisers, a public relations and event marketing firm specializing in the hospitality and spirits industries. Prior to founding Spirit Advisers, Ann had worked for several media companies doing everything from event marketing and promotions to business development and media buying.
When Ann and Paul, who serves as Chief Business Officer for Tales of the Cocktail, aren’t spending time planning and coordinating each year’s events, they split their time between their home in New Orleans and their boat in Dallas with the unofficial Tales of the Cocktail mascot, Delta Dawg.
